Our Baby is one in Christ

Yesterday we batized our baby Samantha. She was a sutting vision in white. I have always been raised with a strong faith and although in my early adolecence I didn’t get the point I soon grew to understand the peace that fills my heart with the astonishing love of God.

Even before the baby was born I new that we wanted to baptize her. It was a logical step. See, to me baptizm isn’t so much a forgivness of sins or cleansing in order to join the church of Christ, but instead a public proclaimation that this child will be raised to know the loving nature of God.

Thus yesterday my heart was filled with so much joy and pride that little sammy had now received the light of Christ in her life. Nothing could describe it. We now walk as a family to share the good nature of God’s love.

The Holidays

Well folks, in case you failed to notice the end of the year is coming up fast. The avalanche of holidays has begun. I have to admit its a little more special with a little one to share them with.

On Friday I was driving home with Sammy sleeping in her car seat and Dad at the wheel listening to Christmas music on the kost. I realized how lucky we were as parents. We now had the opportunity to create the Magic of Christmas for someone. All of a sudden that tingly excitement that I would get as a kid in my stomach started bubbling up again and it made up for the last three years. See now that the Rivera household had no children Christmas had seem to loose its flare.

I am the festive one. I loved to try to share the magic and excitement with others by creating my own traditions. I would buy my parents their tree when I could and set it up for them. I played Christmas music and baked cookies as I decorated the tree, but all of it seemed to loose its luster when others wouldn’t join in and or get excited about it.

But now not only can I share these heart warming traditions with my baby girl but she gives adults a reason to feel festive again. Needless to say, I am extremely excited to take Sammy to take photos with Santa and bake her some cookies to set out for Santa. Although it doesn’t mean anything to her now it means a whole lot to me. Hopefully she can inject the holiday spirit that I never could.

Here is to a very festive holiday season.

One Less

Today I had my follow up appointment after having some cancerous cells removed from my cervix. The doctor said that the procedure was successful. My Cervix has healed nicely and it looks as though all will be just fine. I will have to say that I cringe to think that if I wasn’t pregnant that I wouldn’t have gotten a pap, allowing for the cancer to spread and take over my body. I am very grateful to the Lord for the circumstances for finding this and for the inspiration to put my life in his hands.

I think that my ignorance should be a warning to all. I know I have said it before but, if you haven’t had a Pap this year GET ONE. Our bodies change so drastically every day that we never know what has changed in a mater of 12 months. Cervical Cancer is one of the most curable cancers and yet every now and again someone looses their life to it. Make sure your not one of those people who looses a battle Cervical Cancer or Breast Cancer for that matter.

Proud to be an American

Words cannot express the pride I feel in my heart. My Daughter has come into this world at a turning point in the history of our country. So many things have been accomplished in our President elects victory! I am overjoyed at the possibilities.
Filled with hope and pride I go to bed knowing that the United States of America has chosen Change.

Samantha’s First Halloween

Halloween was really fun this year. I put together a little kitty costume for Sammy to wear as we sat on our front porch passing out candy to all the kids. We passes out over one thousand peices of candy and that was giving one peice each (accept for the little boy dresses as a UPS driver, he got a hand full).

Here are some photos for all to enjoy.

Vote Tuesday NOVEMBER 4th!

Be oh so proud of me for giving myself a week to cool off before writing about this, but I can be silenced no more. Last Sunday while at mass, I experienced the most frustrating thing ever. Now before I get started let me just say that I don’t like writing about my political views for many reasons and I am a church going Catholic who understands that fullness that spirituality brings to my life. I live my life often thinking of the phrase WWJD (What Would Jesus Do) and although sometimes I fall short I find that often times it gives me the inspiration I need to live this life the way God wants me to.

Having said that, I also have a deep deep appreciation for our government (shortcomings and all) and the fact that our for fathers saw the importance of a separation of church and state, not only allowing for freedom of religion but also making them two independent entities that can influence each other but not control each other.

Okay now to the root of the mater. Last Sunday while at mass, the church felt the need to push my political buttons. The father’s homily was about respecting life (i.e. abortion) there was a film and then he spoke. I was fine with it. I appreciate the fact that the church shares their political view with its parishioner. But then ….. (dum dum dum) they went and killed it. The priest went on to say “..We needed to respect life and Barack Obama supports a woman’s choice to destroy life. As a Christian, voting for a candidate that doesn’t respect life is immoral.” While this may be true, I offer this food for thought. Is sending hundreds of men and women to fight what seems like an endless war respecting life? It’s not that black and white people. These issues don’t exist in a vacuum we need to look at the big picture. The statement bothered me not because of what was said but because of its narrow view. Make sure you vote for the candidate who’s views are closest to yours when looking at their entire platform, not because of one issue.

Then as if they hadn’t fired me up enough there was a young man that came up to speak after communion about everyone’s favorite prop, Prop 8. He used all the stats that are given to us in the commercials. That prop 8 will remove funding from churches and allow children to be taught about gay marriage in schools bla bla bla. The way I see it, as a government that respects our constitution we have the responsibility to allow all people equal rights. This includes having a legal binding contract uniting two persons no mater their gender. Now because the government does not mandate religious practice, the church reserves the right not to marry same sex couples and in doing so can not be reprimanded nor penalized by the government.

People get married all the time by the courts and never step foot in the church to be married. Who am I to say that my fellow Californians do or do not have the right to get married? There is no such thing as separate but equal in God’s eyes. We all miss the mark when it comes to following God’s path but we are taught to love thy neighbor and treat them as we would like to be treated.

It’s a new day and your beliefs count. What makes our country great is the fact that our voices count for something. Make your voice heard, VOTE this Tuesday Nov 4th. Whether you agree with me or not, this election will change our future, make sure you have a say. If you don’t know where your local polling place is you can follow this link and find out Vote411

Until next time friends.

Never have two months flown by so quickly

Well Family and friends believe it or not two months have gone by and our little baby is becoming quite the little ham. She loves taking pictures and talking. She is now about ten and a half pounds and almost two feet tall. Sammy can now coo and goo and she follows you with her eyes and has rolled herself over for the first time. We have made the big move from sleeping in our room to sleeping in her crib at night and she is doing great sleeping about six hours in a row usually from 9pm to 3am. Words cant express how proud we are of our little happy baby.

Month three started off with a ton of monumental events. Sammy received our first set of shots and as if that wasn’t traumatizing enough we also had the doctor pierce her ears. She was not a happy camper. The following day we took the all important trip to the pumpkin patch so that she could pick out her first pumpkin. She met a baby goat and I am pretty sure that she wasn’t sure what to make of it. At least we all had fun.

As for Mom and Dad, we are beginning to establish our routine. I cant say that it is easy by any means but man is it worth it when my little girl looks up and me and smiles with delight. Here are a few
photos to enjoy.
